All Aran has ever known is the sea. Leaping through waves and riding deep currents with his family of selkies, who can slip off their seal skins to take human form. But Aran has never quite fit in. He has never been able to transform into a sleek, powerful seal. And when he discovers why -- discovers the secret his family has been keeping his whole life -- he realizes he is a danger to the entire clan. Maybe he doesn't belong to the sea at all. So Aran gets his first taste of life on land and all the wonders it holds: trees and birds' nests and cookies and, most surprising of all, human friends. Yet the land is dangerous, too. And the unimaginable can happen even there.
