From more than 10 years, Phyllis Webstad has shared her Orange Shirt Story to an international audience and advocated for the rights of Indigenous Peoples. Because of this, Phyllis is able to provide a unique perspective into the social consciousness of Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. Each chapter features key insights from Phyllis and stories from her personal journey. Co-written by Métis scholar Kristy McLeod, Decolonization and Me guides readers through a series of sensitive conversations and challenges us to explore decolonization, responsibility, healing, and the individual responsibility towards Truth and Reconciliation. Phyllis and Kristy provide readers with an opportunity to witness, reflect, and heal with empathy. They remind us to be intentional about the seeds we hope to plant for the future, together. Centered around the Orange Shirt Day movement, and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, readers are encouraged to unpack and reckon with denialism, biases, privilege, and the journey forward, on both a personal and national level.
