Daffodils and dandelions are blooming, and a new neighbor moves in next door to Sparrow, along with a guide dog in training named Toby. Sparrow soon falls in love with Toby and sets out to help him pass his guide dog test. But all she can think about is guide dogs, and she has trouble staying on task in school. Now Toby's not the only one who needs to worry about getting tested. Sparrow's teacher has her meet with the school social's worker, along with some other kids in "friendship group." Sparrow doesn't need any new friends, though, and she definitely doesn't need any help. She's used to being the one helping others. But if she can't be a cooperator, she won't get to walk Toby anymore. If growing up means changing, can Sparrow still be the same Sparrow she's always been?
